A thyristor is a type of power semiconductor device featuring a four-layer, three-terminal (anode, cathode, gate) PNPN structure. It is triggered by a gate signal to switch from a blocking (off) state to a conducting (on) state and remains conducting until the anode-to-cathode current drops below its holding value or a reverse voltage is applied. Beyond standard devices such as conventional thyristors (SCRs) and bidirectional thyristors (TRIACs), this study also covers advanced modules like GTO (Gate Turn-Off Thyristor) and IGCT (Integrated Gate-Commutated Thyristor) which offer higher switching capabilities and are designed for high-voltage, high-current industrial applications.

The global thyristor market—including both discrete devices (conventional SCRs, bidirectional thyristors) and modules such as GTO and IGCT—is experiencing steady development, reflecting a shift toward high-voltage, high-current power switching in modern electronics and industrial systems. In terms of product structure, thyristors can be classified by device type (SCR, bidirectional thyristor, GTO/IGCT modules), power rating (from tens of amperes to thousands, blocking voltages from hundreds to thousands of volts), and application domain (industrial control, power transmission, renewable energy systems, transportation traction, computing & communications).
