A thyristor is a type of power semiconductor device featuring a four-layer, three-terminal (anode, cathode, gate) PNPN structure. It is triggered by a gate signal to switch from a blocking (off) state to a conducting (on) state and remains conducting until the anode-to-cathode current drops below its holding value or a reverse voltage is applied.
