It is particularly well-suited for "deep cold data"—information requiring long-term preservation but infrequent access—including government archives, scientific research data, medical imaging, film and video master copies, cultural heritage records, and AI training datasets.
Currently, DNA data storage is transitioning from laboratory validation to engineering development and early-stage commercialization. Key market participants include DNA synthesis firms, sequencing platform providers, molecular storage startups, research institutions, and traditional data storage vendors.
