It is characterized by excellent chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance, low surface energy, hydrophobicity in standard PTFE form, and compatibility with strong acids, aggressive solvents, corrosive gases, and non-aqueous liquids. Hydrophilic PTFE membrane filters are also available through surface treatment for aqueous filtration. The product is widely used for liquid and gas microfiltration, particle removal, sterile venting, air monitoring, solvent filtration, chemical clarification, semiconductor wet-process filtration, pharmaceutical process filtration, and industrial dust or exhaust filtration. Compared with common PES, PVDF, nylon, or cellulose membranes, PTFE membrane filters are preferred in harsh chemical environments where solvent resistance, thermal stability, low extractables, and reliable pore structure are critical.
Demand for PTFE membrane filters is mainly driven by stricter contamination control in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, semiconductor manufacturing, laboratories, food and beverage processing, environmental monitoring, and high-purity chemical production.
