PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) membrane filter is a filtration product made from PTFE polymer membrane, usually supplied as membrane discs, syringe filters, capsule filters, pleated cartridge filters, vent filters, or laminated filter media. It is characterized by excellent chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance, low surface energy, hydrophobicity in standard PTFE form, and compatibility with strong acids, aggressive solvents, corrosive gases, and non-aqueous liquids. Hydrophilic PTFE membrane filters are also available through surface treatment for aqueous filtration. The product is widely used for liquid and gas microfiltration, particle removal, sterile venting, air monitoring, solvent filtration, chemical clarification, semiconductor wet-process filtration, pharmaceutical process filtration, and industrial dust or exhaust filtration. Compared with common PES, PVDF, nylon, or cellulose membranes, PTFE membrane filters are preferred in harsh chemical environments where solvent resistance, thermal stability, low extractables, and reliable pore structure are critical.
Demand for PTFE membrane filters is mainly driven by stricter contamination control in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, semiconductor manufacturing, laboratories, food and beverage processing, environmental monitoring, and high-purity chemical production. PTFE membrane filter material is made by a special process and different filter material base cloth——add a layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film on the surface of ordinary filter material, giving the filter over 3-year service span. This film acts as a "primary dust layer", and the material exchange is performed on the surface of the film, which can be effectively filtered at the beginning of use. The unique three-dimensional network structure of the film prevents dust from passing through, and there is no need to worry about clogging of the pores. This filtering method is called "surface filtering".
