LCoS light valve chips are reflective microdisplay devices based on a CMOS silicon-based active matrix backplane. They integrate a liquid crystal layer, alignment structure, transparent cover, and basic encapsulation on the reflective pixel electrodes. Incident light from an external LED or laser source is polarized before entering the liquid crystal layer. The driving voltage corresponding to each pixel changes the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules, achieving light intensity, polarization state, or phase modulation.
