CS and its hydrochloride salt CSH in the cosmetics field are intermediate raw materials for some cosmetics and also a reducing agent for cold curly hair. They break the sulfur bond in the hair, reducing the tryptophan to a semi tryptophan containing a thiol group. The hair becomes soft, bends and deforms with the curling iron, and is then oxidized and shaped by oxidants to achieve a better curling effect.
