The global Ferronickel market size was US$ 16740 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 23600 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 5.1% during the forecast period 2025-2031.
By 2025, the evolving U.S. tariff policy is poised to inject considerable uncertainty into the global economic landscape. This report delves into the latest U.S. tariff measures and the corresponding policy responses across the globe, evaluating their impacts on Ferronickel market competitiveness, regional economic performance, and supply chain configurations.
Ferronickel is a ferroalloy. Its CAS number is 11110-39-7. It is a shiny metallic solid material and can be obtained from the carbothermic reduction of serpentinic minerals, such as serpentine, limonite, or garnierite. It enables the production of products with special electronic, magnetic and catalytic properties. Ferronickel remains stable under normal storage conditions; however, when exposed to carbon oxides in reducing atmospheres, there is a risk of forming the toxic gas nickel carbonyl. In 2024, global Ferronickel production reached approximately 14534 K MT, with an average global market price of around US$ 1134 per MT.
The ferronickel market is a key part of the stainless-steel and nickel value chains, supplying an iron–nickel alloy that serves as a major feedstock for producing austenitic stainless steels and certain specialty alloys. Ferronickel is produced mainly from lateritic nickel ores in energy- and capital-intensive smelting operations, and its demand is tightly linked to stainless steel output, construction, infrastructure, machinery and household appliance production. The industry chain runs from mining and beneficiation of nickel laterite ores, through drying, calcining and smelting into ferronickel, to stainless steel mills and alloy producers that melt ferronickel into final steel grades.
The main driving forces are global stainless steel demand and, by extension, economic growth, urbanization and industrialization, particularly in Asia where much of the world’s stainless capacity resides. As infrastructure, construction, chemical processing, food equipment, transportation and consumer durables expand, stainless steel production increases, supporting ferronickel consumption; the long-term trend toward corrosion-resistant, hygienic and durable materials in many industries underpins this. Ferronickel competes with other nickel units (such as nickel pig iron, Class I nickel, and scrap), so shifts in relative costs, environmental regulations, carbon policies and ore availability heavily influence which nickel sources mills choose; environmental and energy policies, especially around high-emission laterite smelting, are increasingly shaping investment decisions and operating costs. Nickel price volatility, policy changes in major ore-exporting countries, and cyclical swings in stainless demand create significant price and margin fluctuations for ferronickel producers. Balancing high capital intensity and technical barriers against strong cyclical and policy risks, ferronickel producers generally operate with relatively thin but acceptable gross profit margins, most commonly in the range of about 8–18%, with the upper end reached in tight nickel markets and favorable policy environments, and the lower end in periods of oversupply or cost pressure.

This report empowers stakeholders to capitalize on emerging opportunities, optimize product strategies, and outperform competitors through data-driven insights on sales, revenue, and forecasts across regions, by Type, and by Application for 2020-2031.
