Market Snapshot

The global Piezo Ceramic market is projected to grow from US$ 1583 million in 2025 to US$ 2536 million by 2032, at a CAGR of 6.9% (2026-2032), driven by critical product segments and diverse end‑use applications.
Piezoelectric ceramics (Piezoceramics) are a class of polycrystalline functional ceramic materials that exhibit the piezoelectric effect after polarization treatment. They enable bidirectional conversion between mechanical and electrical energy: when the material is subjected to pressure, vibration, or mechanical deformation, it generates an electric charge—known as the “direct piezoelectric effect”; when an electric field is applied, the material undergoes minute expansion, contraction, or deformation—known as the “reverse piezoelectric effect.” Currently, the most widely commercialized material system is lead zirconate titanate (PZT) [Pb(Zr,Ti)O₃]. Other materials include lead titanate, barium titanate, and lead-free piezoelectric ceramics such as BNT and KNN. The product lines of Kyocera, Fuji Ceramics, and PI Ceramic are all centered on PZT piezoelectric ceramics and their single-layer and multilayer components.
In 2025, global sales of piezoelectric ceramics reached 3.861 billion units, with an average price of $0.41 per unit.
Development Trends
PZT will remain dominant in the long term, but lead-free materials are entering a phase of accelerated industrialization.
PZT will not rapidly exit the market in the next 5–10 years, as its piezoelectric constant, mechanical quality factor, long-term reliability, and cost advantages remain very significant. However, EU RoHS and environmental regulations continue to drive the development of lead-free systems such as BNT-BT, KNN, and BaTiO₃. CeramTec has already launched BNT-BT lead-free piezoelectric ceramics and has begun validation for ultrasonic flowmeters and certain medical ultrasound applications.
Upgrading from Single-Layer Piezoelectric Discs to Multilayer Co-fired Stacks
Traditional single-layer piezoelectric ceramics typically require higher drive voltages, whereas multilayer piezoelectric ceramics—achieved by co-firing dozens or even hundreds of thin ceramic layers with internal electrodes—can achieve significant displacement and thrust at voltages as low as 100–200 V or even lower. Consequently, they are seeing significant growth in semiconductor equipment, precision dispensing valves, optical adjustment, medical devices, and industrial automation. Both KEMET and CeramTec currently offer commercial multilayer piezoelectric ceramic actuators.
Semiconductor Equipment Emerges as a Key New Growth Driver for High-End Piezoelectric Ceramics
Advanced wafer manufacturing demands ever-higher precision in micro- and nano-level positioning and high-speed fluid control. Piezoelectric stacks are now being used in mass flow controllers, gas valves, wafer stages, optical systems, precision dispensing, and active vibration control. Although the volume of such products is far lower than that of piezoelectric elements for consumer electronics, their unit prices and gross profit margins are significantly higher than those of standard products, which will continue to drive up the industry’s average selling price (ASP). Kyocera has explicitly identified semiconductor MFCs, valve control, and precision wafer motion as key applications for piezoelectric ceramics.
High power, high temperature, and high reliability have become the focus of materials R&D
Applications such as ultrasonic welding, medical HIFU, sonar, aerospace, and downhole measurement require materials to maintain stable performance under high electric fields, high mechanical stress, and high-temperature conditions. Consequently, hard PZT, high-Curie-temperature ceramics, low-dielectric-loss materials, and special doping systems command significantly higher value than standard PZT. CTS is currently supplying PZT materials for HIFU applications as well as high-performance textured PMN-PZT ceramics.
Textured piezoelectric ceramics are gradually emerging as an alternative to single crystals
Traditional PZT ceramics are low-cost but offer lower performance than piezoelectric single crystals such as PMN-PT. Textured ceramics, however, utilize grain orientation technology to significantly enhance key properties—such as d33—while maintaining the cost and dimensional advantages of ceramic manufacturing. CTS has commercialized T4001-class PMN-PZT textured ceramics, with some products achieving a d33 value exceeding 650 pC/N.

The piezoelectric ceramic is a kind of functional ceramic materials which can create electricity when subjected to a mechanical stress. They will also work in reverse, generating a strain by the application of an electric field. In sensors they make it possible to convert forces, pressures and accelerations into electrical signals, and in sonic and ultrasonic transducers and actuators they convert electric voltages into vibrations or deformations.
