In the medical field, they are regarded as revolutionary materials capable of replacing traditional metal implants (such as titanium alloys and stainless steel), significantly reducing scatter artifacts in diagnostic imaging and alleviating the weight burden on patients.

The upstream raw materials for carbon fiber medical composites primarily consist of two core components: carbon fiber reinforcements and resin matrices. PAN-based carbon fiber is the mainstream reinforcement; its production begins with the polymerization of acrylonitrile monomer and involves multiple precision processes—such as spinning, pre-oxidation, low-temperature carbonization, and high-temperature graphitization—demanding extremely high levels of equipment precision and process control. In the medical sector, the most common matrix resins are epoxy resins (offering superior impregnation and bonding, as well as excellent mechanical and chemical resistance) and thermoplastic PEEK/PPS (characterized by high-temperature, wear, and impact resistance, and suitability for secondary processing); some high-end implants utilize bismaleimide (BMI) resins to meet the requirements of repeated high-temperature sterilization.
