Plastic Recycling Washing Line refers to an integrated production line that processes waste plastic through feeding, size reduction, washing, contaminant separation, dewatering and drying to produce clean plastic flakes, regrind or film fragments suitable for further mechanical recycling.
The scope includes PET bottle, PE/PP film, rigid polyolefin, woven-bag, tray and engineering-plastic washing lines. Cold-wash, hot-wash and combined systems are included.
Standalone machines, sorting-only plants, pelletizing lines, chemical recycling systems, independent wastewater-treatment plants, civil works and operating services are excluded.
The 2025 benchmark ASP is US$410,000 per unit, global sales volume is approximately 3.220k units, and the modeled average gross margin is approximately 29%.
The upstream industry chain includes steel, electric motors, reducers, blades, screens, pumps, heaters, conveyors, sensors, PLCs and separation components. The midstream covers process testing, line design, equipment manufacturing, mechanical and electrical integration, factory testing, installation and commissioning. The downstream mainly covers plastic recyclers, packaging recyclers, recycled-fiber producers, compounders and recycled-plastic product manufacturers.
Plastic washing-line performance is increasingly evaluated by the quality and consistency of the output material rather than by nominal throughput alone. A high feed rate has limited value if glue, labels, paper, metals, fines or incompatible polymers remain in the final flakes.
Feedstock characterization is essential. PET bottles, agricultural film, woven bags, detergent containers and appliance plastics differ significantly in bulk density, moisture, labels, adhesives, sand, oil and polymer composition, so they should not be processed using the same standard configuration.
Pre-washing protects downstream crushers, friction washers and pumps from excessive sand, glass, metal and mineral contamination. It is particularly important for agricultural film and post-consumer packaging collected from mixed waste streams.
Hot washing improves the removal of glue, oil, food residue and other surface contamination, but increases heat, chemical and wastewater-treatment requirements. The appropriate temperature and chemical dosage must be matched to the polymer and desired output quality.
Density separation is effective only when polymers and contaminants have sufficiently different densities. Materials with overlapping densities, multilayer structures or fillers may require optical, electrostatic, air or other separation processes.
Film washing creates different mechanical challenges from rigid-plastic washing. Flexible film has a low bulk density, wraps around shafts and retains more water, making feeding, squeezing and drying especially important.
Residual moisture directly affects downstream extrusion stability and energy consumption. Mechanical drying is normally followed by squeezing or thermal drying when a lower moisture level is required.
Water recirculation reduces freshwater consumption, but contamination accumulates if filtration, sludge removal and dissolved-solids control are inadequate. Water recycling must therefore be designed as part of the process rather than added as a simple storage tank.
Food-grade recycled material requires more than a conventional hot-wash line. Feedstock control, validated decontamination, traceability, quality testing and downstream extrusion or solid-state treatment remain essential.
Future competition will increasingly depend on output purity, material yield, freshwater consumption, energy use per tonne, residual moisture, automatic process control, line availability and the ability to adapt the process to local feedstock conditions.
