Market Snapshot

The global Ship Fire Damper market is projected to grow from US$ 88.75 million in 2025 to US$ 141 million by 2032, at a CAGR of 7.1% (2026-2032), driven by critical product segments and diverse end‑use applications.
Ship Fire Damper is a fire-protection device installed in a ship’s ventilation or HVAC ductwork. Under normal operating conditions, the damper remains open to permit airflow. When a fire is detected—or when it is manually or remotely activated—it closes to restrict the passage of flame, heat and combustion products through the ventilation system.
Its primary function is to maintain the fire integrity of fire-rated bulkheads, decks and compartment boundaries, thereby containing a fire within its zone of origin. A fire damper does not extinguish the fire; it isolates ventilation paths that could otherwise spread the fire between compartments. This definition is consistent with the terminology adopted by the International Maritime Organization under SOLAS fire-protection provisions.
Market Drivers
1. Mandatory SOLAS and classification compliance
The strongest market driver is regulatory rather than discretionary. SOLAS requires ships to be divided into fire zones and establishes requirements for fire containment, smoke control, ventilation-system shutdown and the protection of escape routes. Classification societies and flag administrations verify compliance during newbuilding approval, periodic surveys and port State control inspections.
2. Growth of global shipbuilding and fleet renewal
Every new SOLAS-class vessel requires a fire-compartmentation and ventilation-isolation system. Demand is particularly strong for vessels with large accommodation blocks, multiple fire zones or complex ventilation networks, such as cruise ships, ferries, LNG carriers, container ships, naval vessels and offshore units.
UNCTAD continues to identify shipbuilding, fleet development and fleet renewal as core components of the global maritime transport industry. Maritime shipping carries more than 80% of global merchandise trade, sustaining a large installed base of vessels requiring fire-safety equipment throughout their service lives.
