Lithium-Ion Battery Crushing and Sorting System refers to an integrated mechanical pretreatment line that safely shreds, crushes, dries, screens and physically separates spent lithium-ion batteries or battery-production scrap into black mass, copper, aluminum, steel, plastics and separator fractions.
The scope includes enclosed or inert shredding, fine crushing, electrolyte or solvent removal, screening, magnetic separation, air classification, gravity separation, dust collection, exhaust-gas treatment and centralized process controls.
The 2025 benchmark ASP is US$1.25 million per system, global sales volume is approximately 0.512k systems, and the modeled average gross margin is approximately 30%.
The upstream industry chain includes shredders, crushers, screens, magnetic separators, air classifiers, dryers, nitrogen systems, fans, filters, sensors, PLCs and explosion-protection components. The midstream covers process testing, safety engineering, equipment manufacturing, mechanical and electrical integration, control programming and factory acceptance testing. The downstream mainly covers battery recyclers, battery manufacturers, automotive and energy-storage recycling facilities, and electronics-recycling companies.
Mechanical pretreatment determines the composition and quality of the material entering downstream metallurgical recovery. Poor liberation or incomplete separation increases copper, aluminum, plastic and electrolyte contamination in the black mass.
Battery safety must be considered at the system level rather than only at the shredder. Residual electrical energy, electrolyte volatility, oxygen concentration, material temperature, dust accumulation and gas pressure interact throughout feeding, shredding, drying and storage.
Discharging batteries before shredding reduces electrical risk but does not completely eliminate the possibility of internal short circuits or thermal reactions. Damaged, swollen or chemically unstable cells require additional handling controls.
Inert shredding reduces the probability of ignition by limiting oxygen, but it requires gas-tight equipment, oxygen monitoring, pressure management and reliable isolation between process stages.
Wet or submerged shredding can control heat and ignition risk, although it creates contaminated liquid streams and may increase the complexity of subsequent drying and materials separation.
