Water-cooled flat linear motors are permanent-magnet synchronous direct-drive motors that convert electrical energy directly into linear thrust while using integrated liquid-cooling passages to control heat generated in the windings and, where applicable, the iron core. A typical product comprises a primary coil or forcer, a permanent-magnet track, temperature sensors, liquid-cooling channels or manifolds, coolant ports, and power and sensor cables. Commercial configurations include single-sided iron-core, double-sided iron-core, and selected ironless flat motor designs, supplied as component kits, coil units, magnet tracks, packaged motor modules, or customer-specific motor assemblies. Key specifications include continuous and peak force, force constant, back-EMF constant, normal magnetic attraction, maximum velocity, winding thermal resistance, coolant flow rate, pressure drop, inlet temperature, and permissible winding temperature rise. By removing heat close to its source, active liquid cooling enables higher continuous-force density, reduces thermal transfer into the machine structure, and improves dimensional stability during long-duty-cycle operation. These characteristics make the products particularly relevant to CNC machine tools, semiconductor and electronics manufacturing equipment, laser and precision-processing machinery, inspection and metrology systems, and high-dynamic industrial automation.

Water-cooled flat linear motors represent a performance-oriented configuration within the established linear-motor industry rather than a separate emerging motor technology. Their principal value lies in maintaining continuous force and dimensional stability during sustained high-duty operation, not merely in increasing short-duration peak thrust. By extracting winding and core losses close to their source, the cooling circuit reduces heat transfer into machine frames, metrology loops, workpieces, and process chambers. This enables compact motor packaging, higher continuous-force density, and more consistent precision over extended operating cycles. Accordingly, the addressable market is concentrated in high-end CNC machine tools, semiconductor inspection and packaging equipment, laser-processing systems, precision metrology platforms, and demanding factory-automation applications.

Demand through 2032 is expected to be led by semiconductor capital expenditure, advanced packaging and inspection systems, tighter thermal-stability requirements in high-end machine tools, and the migration of laser and electronics equipment toward higher accelerations and duty cycles. Product development is moving from simple external cooling plates toward integrated winding channels, multi-zone coolant routing, reduced pressure drop, embedded temperature sensing, and structures suitable for cleanroom or vacuum-adjacent operation. Higher-voltage motor families and improved liquid-cooled iron-core designs are raising continuous force without proportional increases in motor size, while Asian suppliers are combining motors, stages, and application engineering to accelerate customer qualification. Nevertheless, liquid cooling introduces additional pumps, hoses, seals, chillers, commissioning requirements, and leakage-management risks. The technology will therefore expand primarily in applications where throughput, force density, and thermal accuracy justify the added system cost. Efficient naturally cooled motors, advanced ball-screw systems, and magnetically levitated stages will remain credible alternatives and will prevent uniform adoption across the broader linear-motion market.
