A heat pipe is a passive two-phase heat-transfer device that transports thermal energy through the evaporation, vapor flow, condensation, and return circulation of a working fluid inside a sealed enclosure. A typical heat pipe consists of a sealed metallic envelope, an internal wick structure, and a small quantity of working fluid. Heat applied to the evaporator section vaporizes the fluid; the vapor then flows toward the cooler condenser section, where it releases latent heat and condenses. The liquid returns to the evaporator through capillary force or gravity, completing a continuous thermal cycle. Heat pipes require no mechanical pump or external power and are characterized by high heat-transfer capability, low temperature difference, compact construction, quiet operation, and high reliability. They are widely used in computers, servers, telecommunications equipment, industrial electronics, automotive electronics, aerospace systems, energy equipment, and HVAC applications. The upstream heat pipe supply chain consists primarily of envelope materials such as copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium tubing; wick materials such as copper powder, copper mesh, metallic fibers, and sintered porous structures; and working fluids including deionized water, ammonia, methanol, acetone, refrigerants, sodium, and potassium. Copper-water systems dominate consumer electronics and general electronics cooling, while aluminum-ammonia and stainless-steel/liquid-metal systems are more commonly used in cryogenic, aerospace, and high-temperature applications.

Heat pipes transfer thermal energy passively through the evaporation and condensation of an internal working fluid, offering compact construction, high reliability, low operating-temperature differences, and no requirement for external pumping power. A heat pipe is a closed evaporator-condenser system consisting of a sealed, hollow tube whose inside walls are lined with a capillary structure or wick. Thermodynamic working fluid, with substantial vapor pressure at the desired operating temperature, saturates the pores of the wick in a state of equilibrium between liquid and vapor. When heat is applied to the heat pipe, the liquid in the wick heats and evaporates. As the evaporating fluid fills the heat pipe hollow center, it diffuses throughout its length. Condensation of the vapor occurs wherever the temperature is even slightly below that of the evaporation area. As it condenses, the vapor gives up the heat it acquired during evaporation. This effective high thermal conductance helps maintain near constant temperatures along the entire length of the pipe.

A heat pipe is a closed evaporator-condenser system consisting of a sealed, hollow tube whose inside walls are lined with a capillary structure or wick. Thermodynamic working fluid, with substantial vapor pressure at the desired operating temperature, saturates the pores of the wick in a state of equilibrium between liquid and vapor. When heat is applied to the heat pipe, the liquid in the wick heats and evaporates. As the evaporating fluid fills the heat pipe hollow center, it diffuses throughout its length. Condensation of the vapor occurs wherever the temperature is even slightly below that of the evaporation area. As it condenses, the vapor gives up the heat it acquired during evaporation. This effective high thermal conductance helps maintain near constant temperatures along the entire length of the pipe.
