Low carbon cement is a type of cement that reduces the carbon footprint of concrete by using less clinker, the most energy- and carbon-intensive part of the cement manufacturing process. Low carbon cement can be produced by adding more limestone, using cement replacement materials like fly ash, silica fume, and slag, or implementing low-impact changes to the production processes and mix designs3. Low carbon cement should behave identically to traditional cement in terms of performance and cost23. Low carbon cement can lower the CO2 emissions of concrete by 10 percent to 100 percent.

And the cement industry became the fourth largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in the industrial sector after electricity, steel and chemicals. 60% of the cement industry"s carbon emissions come from process emissions, 35% from combustion emissions and 5% from indirect emissions from electricity. According to our “Building Materials Research Institute”, the global clinker capacity in 2022 was about 3.55 billion tons, and the global cement production was about 4.0 billion tons. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China"s cumulative cement output reached 2.118 billion tons in 2022.
