Typical formulations contain anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, emulsifiers, penetrants, dispersants, alkaline builders, chelating agents, corrosion inhibitors, defoamers, solubilizers, preservatives, and water; some grades may also contain glycol ethers, esters, citrus terpenes, or other solvent components. Its cleaning mechanism relies on wetting, penetration, emulsification, saponification, dispersion, and complexation to weaken adhesion between waxy soils and the workpiece surface, allowing polishing compounds and oily residues to detach and remain dispersed in the cleaning bath.
