The global market for Aircraft Recycling was estimated to be worth US$ 125 million in 2025 and is projected to reach US$ 165 million, growing at a CAGR of 4.1% from 2026 to 2032.
Aircraft recycling services refer to a range of professional activities involving the assessment, disassembly, component recovery and material recycling of retired, damaged or economically unviable aircraft. Service providers typically evaluate the residual value of an aircraft based on its type, age, maintenance records, remaining component life and aftermarket demand. High-value assets such as engines, landing gear, auxiliary power units, avionics and other reusable parts are then removed, while airframe materials including aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, steel, composites and wiring are sorted for further processing. The primary objective is to maximize residual-value recovery while meeting aviation safety, asset-traceability and environmental requirements. Based on an average price of approximately $150,000–$220,000 per aircraft for commercial aircraft dismantling and recycling services, and a global annual processing volume of approximately 450–600 aircraft.
The upstream value chain of aircraft recycling mainly includes aircraft owners and retirement sources such as airlines, aircraft lessors, asset managers, financial institutions and government agencies. It also involves aircraft storage facilities, dismantling tools, component-testing equipment, repair-certification services, logistics providers and environmental-treatment resources. Midstream aircraft recycling companies are responsible for aircraft intake and assessment, retirement planning, storage management, airframe dismantling, parts harvesting, document traceability, coordination of component inspection and material sorting. Downstream participants include airline maintenance departments, MRO providers, parts suppliers, used-serviceable-material distributors, component-repair companies and metal recyclers. Reusable aircraft parts generally return to the maintenance and spare-parts market, while airframe materials are directed to recycled-metal and other resource-recovery channels.
The aircraft recycling market is primarily driven by fleet renewal, the retirement of aging aircraft, growing demand for used serviceable materials and increasing sustainability requirements across the aviation industry. Compared with the simple sale of scrap materials, the removal, inspection and remarketing of high-value components such as engines, landing gear and avionics can generate significantly greater residual-value recovery. As a result, competition is gradually shifting from basic dismantling capabilities toward lifecycle asset management and aftermarket commercialization. Aircraft recycling companies need not only standardized dismantling, environmental-treatment and documentation-traceability capabilities, but also established networks covering inspection, repair, warehousing, logistics and sales. As airlines place greater emphasis on asset efficiency and supply-chain resilience, companies with multiple dismantling locations, mature parts-distribution channels and integrated asset-management capabilities are expected to strengthen their competitive positions.
