Ferroniobium (FeNb) is an iron-based alloy containing a certain proportion of niobium (typically 60%–70% Nb). It is primarily produced from niobium oxide through aluminothermic reduction or electric furnace reduction processes and is the most important form of niobium additive in the steel industry. Its core function is to be added to molten steel as a microalloying element during steelmaking, refining the grain size and improving strength and toughness, thereby significantly enhancing the performance of the steel. It is widely used in high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA), pipeline steel, automotive steel, and structural steel, and is one of the key raw materials driving the development of high-performance steel. The demand in 2025 is estimated at 117,487 tons.

In recent years, with the global steel industry upgrading towards high performance and lightweighting, the market demand for ferroniobium, as an important microalloying additive, has continued to grow. Ferroniobium is mainly used in the production of high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA steel).
