Hydrodynamic bearings, also known as liquid hydrodynamic oil-film bearings, are a core subcategory of fluid-film bearings and represent a type of non-contact sliding bearing.

Core Principle: Relying on the relative rotational motion of the journal (or thrust disc), a viscous fluid (lubricating oil, water, gas, etc.) is drawn into the converging gap between the shaft and the bearing shell.
