Based on our research, the essence of the satellite platform industry is shifting from traditional project-based satellite engineering toward a combined model of “standardized platform + mission payload + software-defined capability.” Traditional GEO communications satellites, meteorological satellites, navigation satellites and high-reliability defense satellites still rely on large system integrators. Their core competitiveness lies in long-term on-orbit reliability, complex systems engineering capabilities, customer qualification and experience in national-level programs. However, LEO constellations and responsive defense space architectures are reshaping the distribution of value. Some manufacturers are shortening delivery cycles through standardized buses, fast AIT, batch production and software-enabled interfaces, gradually turning satellite platforms from highly customized engineering products into industrialized products.
From the demand structure, the strongest growth areas in the future will not come only from traditional commercial GEO communications satellites, but increasingly from LEO broadband, government secure communications, missile warning and tracking, direct-to-device connectivity, remote sensing constellations, IoT and in-orbit demonstration.
