MMA is then polymerized by specialty plastics manufacturers into PMMA resins, which are further modified with optical additives or purification processes to optimize IR transmission and reduce absorption in targeted wavelengths. Midstream processors convert the resin into IR-transmitting acrylic sheets, lenses, films, domes, or molded components via extrusion, casting, or injection molding. Downstream, these materials are integrated by optical component manufacturers and electronics OEMs into devices such as consumer electronics, automotive sensors, surveillance cameras, medical imaging equipment, industrial automation systems, and aerospace optical assemblies, where transparent protection and efficient infrared signal transmission are required.
