An on-site electrochlorination system is a disinfection and oxidation equipment system that utilizes electrolysis to generate sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) or chlorine gas directly at the point of use from brine (NaCl solution). This system typically includes a brine preparation unit, an electrolytic cell, a power supply, an electronic control system, and a safety monitoring unit. This system enables continuous, on-site disinfectant production based on demand, eliminating the safety risks associated with transporting and storing liquid chlorine or concentrated sodium hypochlorite. On-site electrochlorination systems offer advantages such as safe operation, fresh reagents, easy maintenance, and low costs. They are widely used in seawater desalination, power plant cooling water, sewage treatment, waterworks, and ship antifouling applications, providing a highly efficient and environmentally friendly disinfection and anti-biofouling solution.

On-site electrochlorination systems produce sodium hypochlorite solution on-site by electrolyzing saline water (seawater or brine) for water disinfection and sterilization. They are widely used in municipal water supply, wastewater treatment, seawater desalination, industrial circulating water, and ship ballast water treatment. Compared to traditional methods of purchasing liquid chlorine or sodium hypochlorite externally, on-site electrochlorination technology offers advantages such as high safety, low transportation risk, controllable operating costs, and a high degree of automation, making it one of the key technologies in the current water treatment and disinfection field.
