A Positive Displacement progressing cavity pump (PCP) is a positive displacement pump and is also known as a progressive cavity pump, progg cavity pump, eccentric screw pump or cavity pump. It uses a single screw (the rotor) which meshes with a stator to create cavities that move fluid along the axis of the pump. PCPs are designed to handle heavy and viscous fluids, such as heavy crude oil, and are used in low-production, deviated, or off-centered wells. They are particularly effective in environments with high gas-to-oil ratio (GOR), scales, and solids at the pump intake, providing long-term, reliable operation that is often unattainable by Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) or other Artificial Lift Systems. is a type of positive displacement pump and is also known as a progressive cavity pump, progg cavity pump, eccentric screw pump or cavity pump. It transfers fluid by means of the progress, through the pump, of a sequence of small, fixed shape, discrete cavities, as its rotor is turned. This leads to the volumetric flow rate being proportional to the rotation rate (bidirectionally) and to low levels of shearing being applied to the pumped fluid.
