These components enable simultaneous or rapidly sequenced wavelength detection without mechanically exchanging multiple individual filters and are used in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, PCR and molecular diagnostics, spectroscopy, machine vision, agricultural imaging, infrared sensing, astronomy, optical communications, and wavelength-multiplexed display systems.

Multiband filters represent a technically demanding subsegment of the optical-filter industry rather than a simple combination of conventional single-band components.
