The radio frequency balloon catheter is a medical device that integrates a radio frequency generator on the basis of a balloon catheter. Its working principle is to generate heat on the electrode on the surface of the balloon through radio frequency energy, and then thermally ablate or thermally expand the blood vessel wall to achieve the purpose of treating vascular stenosis.
The radio frequency balloon catheter is usually composed of a catheter body, a balloon, a radio frequency electrode, a wire and other parts. The catheter body is used to insert into the blood vessel and guide the balloon to the lesion site; the balloon is the expandable part, which is used to support the blood vessel wall and transmit radio frequency energy; the radio frequency electrode is located on the surface of the balloon and is used to generate radio frequency energy; the wire connects the radio frequency electrode with the radio frequency generator to transmit radio frequency signals.
The radio frequency balloon catheter is mainly used to treat vascular stenosis, such as coronary artery stenosis and peripheral artery stenosis. Through the thermal ablation or thermal expansion of radio frequency energy, the hyperplastic tissue or plaque on the blood vessel wall can be removed to restore the patency of the blood vessel. At the same time, the radio frequency balloon catheter can also reduce the proliferation of the vascular endothelium and reduce the risk of restenosis.
