Capacitor film refers to electrical grade plastic film used as dielectric material for film capacitors, which has special requirements for electrical properties, such as high dielectric strength, low loss, high temperature resistance, high crystallinity, etc. Film capacitors made of capacitor film as raw material have the advantages of stable capacitance, low loss, excellent voltage resistance, high insulation resistance, good frequency characteristics, high reliability, etc., and are widely used in electronics, home appliances, communications, electricity, LED lighting, new energy and other fields. Capacitor film is mostly made of polypropylene and polyester as raw materials. Among them, the polypropylene used is generally electrical grade homopolymer polypropylene (high iso-regular homopolymer PP), which has the characteristics of high purity, excellent heat resistance, insulation, chemical stability, impact resistance, etc. The polyester used is generally electrical grade polyethylene terephthalate (electrical grade polyester, PET), which has the characteristics of high dielectric constant, high tensile strength, and good electrical properties.

The global Electrical Grade Polypropylene Resin market has relatively high technological and quality-certification barriers. Product performance depends not only on polymerization technology but also on molecular weight distribution, isotacticity, crystallization behavior, ash content, residual catalysts and trace-metal control. Capacitor film is its most representative application, and polypropylene remains the preferred polymer for most film capacitors because of its high dielectric strength, low dielectric loss and favorable self-healing characteristics. Demand is mainly supported by electric-vehicle inverters, solar and wind power converters, high-voltage direct-current transmission, industrial drives, grid compensation equipment and consumer electronics. The high-end market remains concentrated among a limited number of suppliers capable of ultra-high-purity polymerization, clean production and consistent batch control. Long customer qualification cycles also result in relatively stable supplier relationships. Future competition will increasingly focus on ultra-thin-film processability, higher breakdown strength, improved heat resistance, lower dielectric loss and compatibility with high-voltage power electronic systems.
