Electrochemical Grinding (ECG) Services are innovative machining services that combine conventional abrasive grinding with electrochemical metal removal techniques. In the ECG process, a positively - charged metal workpiece and a negatively - charged grinding wheel are used. Once electrically charged, the grinding wheel becomes a cathode and the workpiece acts as an anode. An electrolyte fluid, such as sodium nitrate or sodium chloride, is fed between the grinding wheel and the workpiece to establish an electrochemical connection. As the process starts, the workpiece surface is electrochemically broken down and precisely machined via abrasion with the electrolytic fluid driven by the grinding wheel.
ECG is capable of precisely grinding extremely thin and small - diameter metal components. It can achieve high - precision tolerances. On small cuts, tolerances as low as 0.0002 inches (0.005 mm) can be achieved with careful parameter control. The process is a low - heat one, which removes the risk of thermal distortion and heat stress.
