PCI-SIG states that PCIe 6.0 supports 64.0 GT/s, uses PAM4 signaling, and relies on lightweight FEC and CRC to mitigate the bit error rate increase associated with PAM4. As a result, BERT instruments are evolving from simple error counters into advanced signal integrity platforms that must support jitter injection, stress calibration, error distribution analysis, FEC-aware testing, lane margining and multi-lane synchronization.
