The global Diethylethanolamine market is projected to grow from US$ million in 2025 to US$ million by 2032, at a CAGR of %(2026-2032), driven by critical product segments and diverse end‑use applications, while evolving U.S. tariff policies introduce trade‑cost volatility and supply‑chain uncertainty.
Diethylethanolamine (N,N-Diethylethanolamine) is a chemical substance with a chemical formula of C6H15NO and a molecular weight of 117.189. It is a colorless liquid with a faint ammonia smell, hygroscopic, and soluble in solvents such as water, ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, and petroleum ether. The density of diethylethanolamine is 0.883g/cm³, the melting point is -70°C, the boiling point is 142.731°C (760 mmHg), the flash point is 36.154°C, and the vapor pressure is 2.229mmHg (25°C).
Diethylethanolamine has the chemical reactivity of tertiary amines and alcohols and can react with strong oxidants and acids. It is used in the pharmaceutical field as a precursor chemical for synthesizing drugs such as procaine; in the chemical field, it is used as a corrosion inhibitor, catalyst, pH stabilizer, and intermediate in organic synthesis; in the textile field, it is used as a softener, anti-rust formula, fatty acid derivative, etc. In addition, it can also be used to prepare quaternary ammonium salts and is widely used as a phase transfer catalyst to promote reactions between immiscible phases.
There are two main methods for synthesizing diethylethanolamine: one is to react chloroethanol with sodium hydroxide at 105°C to generate ethylene oxide, then pass it into diethylamine solution for reaction, separate the low-boiling products, and then vacuum distill to obtain the finished product; the other is to use diethylamine and ethylene oxide as raw materials, react at a certain temperature, and the resulting crude product is vacuum distilled to obtain a pure product
Market development opportunities & main driving factors
The development opportunities of the diethylethanolamine market mainly benefit from the continuous expansion of downstream application fields and policy support. With the rapid development of the fine chemical industry, the demand for diethylethanolamine in the fields of medicine, pesticides, environmentally friendly coatings, etc. has continued to increase. In addition, the improvement of global environmental awareness has promoted the demand for low-pollution and low-emission alternative products, and diethylethanolamine has broad application prospects in gas treatment and environmentally friendly coatings. In terms of policy support, some countries and regions provide tax incentives and financial subsidies for green raw materials, further providing a good policy environment for market development. At the same time, technological progress and industrial upgrading are also promoting production efficiency and cost reduction, enhancing market competitiveness.
Market Challenges, Risks, & Restraints
The main risks facing the diethylethanolamine market include fluctuations in raw material prices and cyclical changes in market demand. Its production relies on basic chemical raw materials such as ethylene and ammonia, and the prices of these raw materials are greatly affected by international crude oil market prices, energy policies and global economic conditions. In addition, tightening environmental protection policies may increase production costs and further aggravate price fluctuations. In terms of demand, the market demand for diethylethanolamine is closely related to the development of downstream application fields, which are often affected by changes in macroeconomics, policy orientation and consumer demand, and show cyclical fluctuations. When market demand decreases, companies may face the risk of inventory backlog and capital occupation.
Downstream demand trends
In the future, the downstream demand for diethylethanolamine will show a trend of diversification and growth. The demand for high-purity and special-specification products in the pharmaceutical field will continue to increase, driving manufacturers to improve synthesis processes and purification technologies. The pesticide and dye industries will also maintain steady growth, especially driven by the demand for environmentally friendly products. In addition, emerging fields such as environmentally friendly coatings and gas treatment have great application potential and are expected to become an important driving force for future demand growth. With technological advances and changes in market demand, the application of diethylethanolamine in fine chemicals and high value-added fields will be further expanded.

Diethylethanolamine (DEAE) is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C6H15NO. It is used as a precursor in the production of a variety of chemical commodities such as the local anesthetic procaine. It can be reacted with 4-aminobenzoic acid to make procaine. DEAE can be used as a precursor for DEAE-cellulose resin, which is commonly used in ion exchange chromatography. DEAE can also be conveniently obtained from renewable sources. It is chemically stable and able to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from its surroundings. In solution, it can decrease the surface tension of water when the temperature is increased.
