In a typical two-component epoxy system, the resin (part A) is blended with an amine hardener (part B) at a specific equivalent ratio; when mixed, the amine hydrogen adds to the epoxide, forming hydroxyl groups that further promote network formation until a solid, insoluble polymer is obtained. Amine-based hardeners can be formulated for ambient-temperature or elevated-temperature cure, solvent-borne or solvent-free systems, and waterborne dispersions, and can be tailored for applications ranging from industrial and protective coatings, civil engineering grouts and flooring to structural adhesives, composites, electrical encapsulants and electronic potting compounds.
