Micro reed switches (<3W) are ultra-miniature, magnetically actuated, hermetically sealed discrete contact switches. Two ferromagnetic reeds are sealed inside a glass capsule; an external magnetic field pulls the reeds together (or releases them) to open/close the circuit. Versus standard-power reeds, micro types emphasize very small glass length/package size and lower contact power ratings (e.g., sub-watt to a few watts is common), targeting space-constrained and low-power designs with high insulation requirements, such as medical devices and compact electronics.

Upstream inputs include reed alloys (e.g., Ni-Fe), glass capsules and glass-to-metal seals, contact plating systems, leads/terminals, and packaging materials (mold compounds, tape-and-reel/SMD terminations). Downstream, discrete reed switches feed reed sensors (door/level/position), automotive & industrial switching, and reed relays where the reed switch is the core contact element.

Micro Reed Switches are designed for below 3W switching and state sensing. Built on a hermetically sealed glass capsule with magnetic actuation, they provide high insulation, very low off state leakage, and a stable switching window in a tiny footprint. With zero power consumption in the normally open state, they are an excellent fit for battery powered and ultra low power designs.
