Infrared tube heaters, also known as IR heaters, are powerful electric industrial heaters that are generally safer to use than many other types of heaters. The high energy of an electric infrared heater is used for reliable drying, curing or heating processes. Infrared heating equipment reaches a desired operating temperature rapidly for enhanced efficiency. Since the radiant energy from the radiant tube heater heats the product directly, without a heat transfer intermediary (such as air), electric infrared heaters can yield faster response times than traditional convection heating.

Quartz heater is a common infrared heater, the heat generation and subsequent release of the heater is done by the heating element encapsulated in the quartz tube. The heating element generates heat at the wavelength necessary to produce the proper level of intensity to heat the specific material required. The purpose of the quartz tube is to protect the heating element while preventing convective heat from escaping. The principle of quartz heating is that the heating element becomes very hot and the quartz tube suddenly heats up. When the quartz tube reaches the proper temperature, heat is dissipated from the quartz tube. The wavelength of heat generated by this process has been recognized as the most ideal wavelength for the human body. Since the infrared spectrum is almost entirely outside the absorption spectrum of air, infrared heat energy is directly absorbed by people and objects near the quartz heater, with very little heat absorbed by the air.
