CAC Air Curtain is a complete electromechanical unit installed above, beside or within the ceiling of a commercial doorway to generate a controlled air stream across the opening. The air stream reduces the exchange of conditioned indoor air and outdoor air while helping limit the ingress of dust, odors, exhaust fumes and flying insects. The product normally combines a housing, fan and motor assembly, air inlet, discharge nozzle or flow rectifier, controls and optional electric heating elements, hot-water coils or direct-expansion heat-pump coils. The scope includes exposed horizontal, recessed, vertical and revolving-door-integrated units used in retail, foodservice, hospitality, offices, healthcare, education, transport facilities and light commercial receiving areas. Heavy-industrial door units, cold-storage-only units, residential fan heaters, strip curtains, automatic doors, standalone components, installation labor and maintenance services are excluded. The 2025 global ASP is approximately US$896.30 per unit, global sales volume is approximately 322,000 units, and the estimated average manufacturer gross margin is approximately 33%. Upstream inputs include sheet metal, aluminum, engineering plastics, motors, impellers, heating elements, hydronic coils, refrigerant coils, sensors, control boards and communication modules. Midstream activities include aerodynamic design, cabinet fabrication, fan assembly, heating integration, control development, certification, testing and final assembly. Downstream customers include commercial-property owners, retailers, restaurants, hotels, office operators, hospitals, schools, transport facilities, mechanical contractors, distributors and building-service integrators.
Commercial air curtains are moving from simple fixed-speed doorway fans toward application-engineered climate-separation systems. Door height, width, external wind pressure, indoor pressure balance and temperature difference increasingly determine product selection rather than nominal airflow alone.
Electronically commutated motors, variable-speed control and door-linked operation are becoming more important because they reduce fan energy use and allow the air stream to respond to actual door activity. Temperature sensors, building-system interfaces and remote fault monitoring are expanding first in premium and multi-site applications.
Energy codes are an important demand driver in North America. Current model-code provisions can allow tested air curtains to serve as an alternative to vestibules when velocity, testing, installation and door-linked control requirements are met. This increases the value of independently verified aerodynamic performance.
The heating mix is changing. Electric resistance remains simple to install, while hot-water coils are attractive where a hydronic loop already exists. Heat-pump and direct-expansion units are gaining attention in projects seeking lower operating cost or closer integration with the building cooling and heating system.
Low-profile, recessed and decorative products are gaining share at customer-facing entrances. Noise, cabinet depth, finish, control visibility and maintenance access can be as important as maximum air velocity in hotels, offices, banks and high-end retail.
The principal performance risk is poor application engineering. An undersized or incorrectly angled air stream may fail to reach the floor, while excessive velocity can create drafts and noise. Reliable projects therefore require measured performance data, correct mounting height, full opening coverage and commissioning under real doorway conditions.
