The global Short Glass Fiber Thermoplastic market was valued at US$ 3685 million in 2025 and is anticipated to reach US$ 5566 million by 2032, at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2026 to 2032.
The 2025 U.S. tariff policies introduce profound uncertainty into the global economic landscape. This report critically examines the implications of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on Short Glass Fiber Thermoplastic competitive dynamics, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
Global sales of short glass fiber thermoplastics reached 1.63 million tons in 2025, with an average price of US$2,249 per ton.
Short glass fiber thermoplastics (SFT) are granules produced by extruding and injection molding short, alkali-free glass fibers (10–40 wt%) with lengths of 0.2–0.6 mm, blended with thermoplastic resins such as PP, PA, PBT, and PC, as well as compatibilizers and antioxidants. The fibers are uniformly dispersed and have good flowability, allowing for the rapid molding of complex thin-walled parts on traditional injection molding machines.
Short glass fiber thermoplastic (SFT) raw materials consist of three parts: the matrix can be a general-purpose or engineering thermoplastic resin such as PP, PA, PBT, PC, PET, PPS, etc. (60–85 wt%); the reinforcing phase is short-cut alkali-free glass fiber (diameter 10–17 µm, length 0.5–8 mm, content 5–30 wt%) treated with a silane coupling agent; and the additive system includes PP-g-MAH or corresponding compatibilizers, antioxidants, lubricants, heat stabilizers, etc., with a total proportion of 3–7 wt%. All three components are granulated in a single process via twin-screw extrusion-injection molding.
In the cost structure, the matrix resin accounts for 45–65% (PA, PC, PPS prices increase in that order, with PP being the lowest), chopped glass fiber 30–40%, compatibilizers and additives 5–10%, and the remainder is energy consumption and equipment depreciation. Due to the low price of glass fiber and the mature technology, the cost per ton of SFT is significantly lower than that of thermoplastics made from long glass fiber or carbon fiber, making it an economical composite material widely used in the automotive, home appliance, and electronics industries.

The most common type of fibers used in short fiber thermoplastics are glass fiber and carbon fiber . Adding short fibers to thermoplastic resins improves the composite performance for lightweight applications. In addition, short fiber thermoplastic composites are easier and cheaper to produce than continuous fiber reinforced composites. This compromise between cost and performance allows short fiber reinforced thermoplastics to be used in myriad applications.
