The global Methylamine market was valued at US$ 2777 million in 2025 and is anticipated to reach US$ 4230 million by 2032, at a CAGR of 6.3% from 2026 to 2032.
The 2025 U.S. tariff policies introduce profound uncertainty into the global economic landscape. This report critically examines the implications of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on Methylamine competitive dynamics, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
Global sales of methylamine reached 2,190 K tons in 2025, with an average price of US$1,268 per ton.
Methylamine is an organic compound with a formula of CH3NH2. This colorless gas is a derivative of ammonia, but with one hydrogen atom being replaced by a methyl group. It is the simplest primary amine. It is sold as a solution in methanol, ethanol, tetrahydrofuran, or water, or as the anhydrous gas in pressurized metal containers. Industrially, methylamine is transported in its anhydrous form in pressurized railcars and tank trailers. It has a strong odor similar to fish. Methylamine is used as a building block for the synthesis of many other commercially available compounds. Generally speaking, there are two forms of methylamine: gas and liquid. In our report, gas will be turned into the form of liquid when calculated. That’s to say, we do research based on that1 MT gas type methylamine is equal to 2 MT liquid type methylamine.
The core raw materials for methylamine production are methanol and liquid ammonia, which together account for 75-85% of the total production cost. For example, a 100,000-ton-per-year methylamine plant requires approximately 143,200 tons of methanol and 44,800 tons of liquid ammonia annually. The molar ratio of methanol to ammonia is typically adjustable between 1:1.5 and 1:4. Methanol prices are significantly affected by fluctuations in the prices of basic energy sources such as coal and natural gas. Between 2022 and 2024, global methanol prices fluctuated wildly between $250 and $400 per ton. Liquid ammonia costs, on the other hand, are highly correlated with natural gas prices; in early 2023, the energy crisis in Europe led to a 15% increase in ammonia prices. Energy costs (steam and electricity) account for approximately 15-20%, as the reaction requires a high temperature of 425°C and a high pressure of 2.45 MPa, making compressor and steam consumption the main energy expenditures. Catalyst (aluminosilicate molecular sieve) and labor maintenance costs each account for approximately 3-5%. It is worth noting that methylamine plants can reduce steam consumption through thermal integration optimization (such as using waste heat to preheat feedstock and multi-effect distillation), and the investment payback period for advanced plants can be shortened to about two years. Currently, the industry is exploring the use of green alcohols (biomass methanol) and green ammonia (ammonia produced from renewable energy) to replace traditional gray hydrogen feedstocks in order to achieve carbon reduction throughout the entire life cycle.
