The global Helium (Liquid Helium and Gaseous Helium) market was valued at US$ 2278 million in 2025 and is anticipated to reach US$ 3256 million by 2032, at a CAGR of 5.3% from 2026 to 2032.
The 2025 U.S. tariff policies introduce profound uncertainty into the global economic landscape. This report critically examines the implications of recent tariff adjustments and international strategic countermeasures on Helium (Liquid Helium and Gaseous Helium) competitive dynamics, regional economic interdependencies, and supply chain reconfigurations.
Helium (Liquid Helium and Gaseous Helium) refers to commercially refined helium products produced and delivered by source manufacturers after helium recovery, purification, compression or liquefaction from helium-bearing natural gas, nitrogen-rich gas or other helium-containing feed gas sources. The scope mainly includes liquid helium and refined gaseous helium, excluding crude helium, helium-bearing feed gas, resource interests and pure trading or distribution services. Under ambient conditions, helium is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic and non-flammable inert rare gas with an extremely low boiling point, low density, high thermal conductivity, low chemical reactivity and excellent cryogenic cooling performance. Liquid helium is mainly used in MRI superconducting magnets, cryogenic research, quantum computing, particle physics and advanced semiconductor processes, while gaseous helium is used in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, leak detection, welding shielding, optical fiber production, aerospace testing, diving gas mixtures, analytical carrier gas and lifting applications. Major source-producing countries include the United States, Qatar, Algeria, Russia, Canada, Poland, China and South Africa, with the United States, Qatar, Algeria and Russia remaining the core supply countries in the global commercial helium system.
In 2025, global production of liquid helium and refined gaseous helium reached approximately 175 million to 190 million cubic meters on a gaseous-equivalent basis. Source-level FOB prices were mainly in the range of USD 10.50 to USD 15.50 per cubic meter, with standard refined gaseous helium near the lower end of the range, Grade-A helium and liquid helium on a gaseous-equivalent basis near the middle to upper end, and ultra-high-purity helium or shortage-driven spot supply priced well above normal long-term contract levels.
The global helium industry is shifting from a conventional industrial gas market to a strategic materials market. The core value of liquid helium and high-purity gaseous helium does not come from bulk consumption alone, but from its irreplaceability in ultra-low-temperature cooling, superconductivity, inert process protection and high-precision leak detection. USGS states that there is no substitute for helium in cryogenic applications requiring temperatures below minus 429 degrees Fahrenheit, which gives helium structural demand in MRI, quantum computing, cryogenic research and selected advanced manufacturing processes. As investment in AI chips, advanced packaging, wafer fabrication, aerospace systems, MRI equipment and large-scale scientific infrastructure continues to expand, the strategic value of high-purity helium and liquid helium is increasing, while demand is gradually moving from traditional welding, lifting gas and general industrial uses toward higher-value semiconductor, medical imaging, cryogenic research and aerospace testing applications.
At the same time, helium supply risk remains higher than that of most industrial gases. Commercial helium is mainly recovered as a byproduct from natural gas and cannot be economically produced at scale through air separation like oxygen, nitrogen or argon. Resource concentration, liquefaction capacity, cryogenic ISO container availability, long-term offtake contracts and geopolitical exposure all influence supply stability. New helium operations began production in the United States, Canada and South Africa in 2025, showing gradual supply diversification; however, a limited number of sources, especially Qatar, the United States, Algeria and Russia, still define global supply elasticity. Going forward, source resource development, liquid helium capacity, semiconductor-grade high-purity helium, non-hydrocarbon helium, helium recovery systems and long-term secure supply contracts will be among the most valuable areas for investment analysis and market research.
