Embedded software is specialized programming used to control and manage very specific and limited operations. Unlike general-purpose computer software that can be easily modified or moved from one machine to another, embedded software is tightly integrated with the hardware it controls and is designed to perform specialized functions or tasks. Embedded systems consist of three main parts: hardware, embedded software, and interfaces, each with different but interrelated functions.

On the hardware side, you"ll often come across microcontrollers, which are all-in-one chips that contain a CPU, memory, and input/output peripherals. They are typically low-power, cost-effective, and used in simple applications such as home appliances and simple robots. On the other end of the spectrum are microprocessors, which are more complex and versatile than microcontrollers, but consume more power and cost more. Unlike the latter, they are general-purpose CPUs that usually require additional external components such as RAM. Microprocessors are often used in more complex systems such as advanced robotics and automotive control systems. Furthermore, sensors play a vital role in embedded systems by collecting data from the physical environment (such as temperature or pressure) and converting it into electronic signals. These sensors can be analog or digital and may require specialized circuitry to interpret the data.

Global key players of Embedded Software include NXP Semiconductors, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments, Infineon Technologies, Microsoft, Intel, IBM, Microchip Technology, etc. The top five players hold a share over 30%.
