Vacuum bagging sealant tape is mainly used for sealing vacuum bags. The sealing tape must have enough stickiness to adhere well to the vacuum bag and the mold surface. At the same time, after curing, the sealing tape must be torn off the mold surface cleanly.
The material of the sealing tape is generally synthetic rubber. There are corresponding products according to different temperature resistance requirements. For easy distinction, manufacturers generally make different temperature-resistant sealing tapes in different colors. The most common colors are black and yellow.
Vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) or autoclave processes for composite materials such as carbon fiber and glass fiber rely on high-sealing tapes to ensure bubble-free and uniform curing. Vacuum infusion processes for large blades require tapes to be resistant to high pressure and stretching, and to adapt to long-term high-temperature curing environments (such as above 80°C).
Industrial tapes need to withstand the corrosion and high temperatures (150°C~200°C) of resins (such as epoxy and polyester), and promote the research and development of silicone and modified acrylic adhesives. Pre-cut tapes and self-adhesive designs reduce manual operations and improve the efficiency of composite material production (such as batch manufacturing of aviation parts). Some tapes need to support multiple openings and closings (such as mold debugging) to reduce consumable costs.
Semiconductor or electronic component packaging requires tapes to not debond or leak at a vacuum level of 10⁻³ mBar. Large industrial vacuum bags (such as aircraft wing molding) require tapes to withstand tons of pressure without displacement.
