Wide Bandgap (WBG) semiconductor materials and devices encompass silicon carbide (SiC) substrates and epitaxial wafers, gallium nitride (GaN) substrates and epitaxial wafers, as well as power devices fabricated from these materials, including SiC power devices and GaN power devices. Compared with conventional silicon, WBG materials provide wider bandgaps, higher breakdown fields, superior thermal conductivity, and stronger high-temperature operation, enabling devices to achieve lower losses and higher efficiency in high-voltage, high-frequency, and high-power-density applications. In terms of products, SiC devices mainly include MOSFETs, JFETs, Schottky diodes, and power modules; GaN devices consist of HEMTs, GaN FETs, and power devices widely used in fast charging and server power. On the materials side, SiC substrates are currently dominated by 6-inch and moving toward 8-inch wafers, while GaN is primarily developed through epitaxial growth on silicon or SiC substrates.

Applications are concentrated in EV traction inverters, onboard chargers (OBCs) and fast-charging stations, photovoltaic and wind inverters, data center power supplies, high-performance computing, and 5G telecom base stations. Growth drivers include increasing electric vehicle penetration, government clean energy and carbon neutrality policies, rising demand for efficient power electronics, and ongoing cost reductions enabled by advances in epitaxial growth, device fabrication, and packaging.
