Gallium is a light blue metal that turns into a silvery white liquid at 29.76°C. It is mainly associated with bauxite or sphalerite. Indium is a silvery white metal with a slightly light blue color. It has the characteristics of high boiling point, low resistance and corrosion resistance. It is also widely used in the electronic semiconductor and radio industries.

With the advancement of metal purification technology, the purity of high-purity metals used in various high-end fields has gradually transitioned from 4N to 5N and 6N, and some application fields have even reached 7N (such as electronic semiconductors). Its purity determines the performance of the application process. The higher the purity, the fewer impurities and the higher the performance of the material.

Industrial gallium is mainly recovered and extracted from zinc smelting waste slag and aluminum smelting waste slag. Industrial-grade metal gallium is used as raw material, and is further purified through electrolysis, vacuum distillation, fractional crystallization, regional smelting and other processes to produce high-purity gallium. High-purity indium is usually extracted from indium ore by electrolysis or chemical method. During the refining process, the indium ore needs to be refined and purified many times to ensure that the final indium ingot has a high purity.

High-purity gallium is currently mainly used for the preparation of compound semiconductor materials such as GaN, GaAs, GaP, and GaSb, the doping of semiconductor materials such as silicon and germanium, and the production of alloy materials such as gallium-magnesium alloy. With the large-scale application of GaN third-generation semiconductors, the quality of semiconductor materials such as GaAs, silicon, and germanium has been continuously improved. As an important component, high-purity gallium has put forward higher requirements for its key performance indicators.

High-purity indium is an important metal material. High-purity indium can be used to manufacture semiconductor materials, such as materials for microelectronic devices and optoelectronic devices, including LEDs and solar cells.

The purity of high-purity gallium metal in this article is mainly 6N, 7N, and 8N, and gallium compound materials are not counted. The purity of high-purity indium metal is above 4N, excluding indium compound materials.

Gallium metal is usually used in the form of GaAs, GaN, Ga2O3, industrial gallium, etc., among which industrial gallium is the most important basic product for other products.
