Traditionally, silicon dioxide is produced by mixing silicon and silicon dioxide in the same molar ratio, then grinding into micron-sized powder (the smaller the particles, the more uniform the mixing, and the closer the particles are to each other, the more favorable the reaction), and then heating to a temperature above 1000°C under negative pressure for disproportionation reaction. The higher the temperature, the faster the reaction. The silicon dioxide formed in this way overflows in the form of vapor and is brought to a place with lower pressure and temperature and condensed into silicon dioxide solid. Silicon dioxide (SiOx, 0<x<2) is an inorganic compound and an incomplete oxide of Si. SiOx is dark brown or brownish yellow at room temperature and pressure, is insoluble in water, and will be oxidized to silicon dioxide in the air. In addition to being used as negative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries, SiOx materials can also be used as raw materials for synthesizing fine ceramic materials, or as a semiconductor material, protective film for optical instruments, etc.
