The global Memory Interface Chip market size was US$ 796 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 1766 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 12.4% during the forecast period 2025-2031.
By 2025, the evolving U.S. tariff policy is poised to inject considerable uncertainty into the global economic landscape. This report delves into the latest U.S. tariff measures and the corresponding policy responses across the globe, evaluating their impacts on Memory Interface Chip market competitiveness, regional economic performance, and supply chain configurations.
The memory interface chip is the core logic device of the server memory module (also known as " Random Access Memory "). As the only way for the server CPU to access memory data, its main function is to improve the speed and stability of memory data access and meet the requirements of the server CPU. The ever-increasing high-performance and large-cSouth Koreaity demands of memory modules. The memory interface chip needs to be matched with various memory particles and memory modules produced by memory manufacturers, and must pass the comprehensive and strict requirements of server CPU, memory and OEM manufacturers for their functions and performance (such as stability, running speed and power consumption, etc.). Only after certification can we enter the stage of large-scale commercial use.
Montage Technology and Renesas Electronics are the top two manufacturers of memory interface chip globally and account for over 80% of global market share in total.
At present, DDR4 and DDR5 memory interface chips can be divided into two categories according to their functions: one is the register buffer (RCD), which is used to buffer the address, command, clock, and control signals from the memory controller; the other is the data buffer (DB), which is used to buffer the data signal from the memory controller or memory particles. RCD and DB form a set of chips, which can achieve full buffering of address, command, clock, control signals and data signals. Memory modules that only use RCD chips to buffer address, command, clock, and control signals are usually called RDIMMs (registered dual in-line memory modules), while memory modules that use RCD and DB chips to buffer address, command, clock, control signals and data signals are called LRDIMMs (load-reduced dual in-line memory modules). In terms of type, data buffer (DB) accounts for more than 85% of the total market share.
In order to meet the growing demand for higher bandwidth and higher capacity memory modules for AI processing, the JEDEC organization has formulated technical standards for server MRDIMM (Multiplexed Rank DIMM) memory modules. MRCD and MDB chips are the core logic devices of server high-bandwidth memory modules MRDIMM. The development of AI and big data applications and the evolution of related technologies have driven the rapid increase in the number of cores of server CPUs. There is an urgent need to significantly increase the bandwidth of the memory system to meet the data throughput requirements of each core in the multi-core CPU. MRDIMM is born based on this application demand. From the perspective of downstream applications, MRDIMM is expected to have a large demand in high-performance computing, AI and other application fields that are sensitive to memory bandwidth. With the increase in the penetration rate of MRDIMM in the future, the demand for MRCD/MDB (especially MDB) chips will increase significantly.
In the DDR4 generation and the early stage of the DDR5 generation, the clock driver function was integrated into the RCD chip and used in server memory modules, and has not yet been deployed in client memory modules (such as desktops and laptops). As the DDR5 transmission rate continues to increase, the clock signal frequency is getting higher and higher, and the signal integrity problem is becoming more and more significant. According to the JEDEC definition, when the DDR5 data rate reaches 6400MT/s and above, the client memory module needs to introduce a dedicated clock driver (CKD, or "Clock Driver") chip to buffer and redrive the clock signal to meet the integrity and reliability requirements of the high-speed clock signal. In terms of application, more than 90% of the world's memory interface chips are used in servers.
