It has a low dielectric constant (k ≈ 2.6–2.9), making it suitable for use as an interlayer dielectric in integrated circuits. MSQ is thermally stable with decomposition temperatures exceeding 400°C and has a glass transition temperature typically ranging from 150°C to 300°C. It is soluble in various organic solvents like ethanol, toluene, and isopropanol, and can be applied via spin coating to form films from 100 nm to 2 µm thick. The material is highly hydrophobic and optically transparent, with a refractive index around 1.41–1.47, making it valuable in electronics and coatings applications.
