Potassium Heptafluoroniobate (K₂NbF₇) is an inorganic compound consisting of two potassium ions and a heptafluoroniobate anion (NbF₇²⁻), where niobium is in the +5 oxidation state coordinated by seven fluoride ions. Typically appearing as a white or colorless crystalline solid, it is soluble in water and hydrofluoric acid but sensitive to moisture, which can lead to the release of toxic hydrogen fluoride (HF). K₂NbF₇ is primarily used as an intermediate in the fluoride-based refining of niobium metal and in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes for producing thin films and specialized coatings. Its applications also extend to certain glass and ceramic manufacturing contexts where fluoride compounds are required.
