The global market for Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) Service was valued at US$ 337 million in the year 2024 and is projected to reach a revised size of US$ 478 million by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 5.2% during the forecast period.
Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) Service measures biomolecular interactions by analyzing interference patterns of white light reflected from the surface of a biosensor tip. In BLI experiment, one molecule is immobilized to a biosensor and binding to a second molecule is measured. The molecules that bind or dissociate themselves from the biosensor causes a shift in the interference pattern that is measured in real-time. The unbound molecules, variations in the refractive index of the surrounding medium or flow rate, however, do not affect the interference. This unique feature of BLI technology therefore allows measuring crude samples to determine the kinetics and affinity of molecular interactions. Anotheradvantage of BLI is that the number of sensors can be scaled up easily without making the system more error-prone or complex. Theoretically, there is no need to regenerate single sensors, because immobilizing an equal amount of ligand on additional sensors can easily create duplicates of the surface.
The Bio - Layer Interferometry (BLI) service industry is experiencing rapid growth and presents several notable trends. Technologically, continuous innovation is a key trend. Manufacturers are dedicated to enhancing the sensitivity, throughput, and usability of BLI systems. For example, the next - generation BLI technology (NGB) has been introduced to meet the growing and diverse market demands. BLI is also being increasingly integrated with other technologies to provide more comprehensive and accurate analysis. The application scenarios of BLI are constantly expanding. It is not only widely used in the development of small - molecule drugs, antibody drugs, and protein drugs but also in emerging fields such as vaccine research and development, AAV, and LNP research. In addition, BLI is playing an important role in personalized medicine, enabling the analysis of specific patient responses at the molecular level. Moreover, with the continuous deepening of basic life science research and the development of biopharmaceuticals, as well as the increasing emphasis on biopharmaceuticals, the demand for BLI services in pharmaceutical research laboratories, contract research organizations (CROs), and biotechnology companies is surging.
