The value chain runs from mineral and chemical suppliers (lime, silica, fluorspar, alumina, borax, carbon, lithium) to specialized mold-flux and refractory groups (Vesuvius, Calderys/HWI, Shinagawa, plus a wide Chinese belt of custom flux makers) and finally to steelmakers’ slab/bloom/billet and thin-slab casters.

Continuous casting process requires mold powders which are a powder type of lubricant added into the casting molds. This maintains the surface temperature of molten steel, preventing the steel from re-oxidation, and works as lubricant between the casting molds and solidified steel shell.
