The biodegradable IVC filter is a medical device implanted in the inferior vena cava by an interventional radiologist or vascular surgeon. The filter is made of biodegradable materials that can gradually degrade in the body and eventually be absorbed by the human body, without the need for a second surgery to remove it. The working principle of the biodegradable IVC filter is to intercept and capture blood clots that have fallen off from the lower limbs, thereby preventing these blood clots from entering the right ventricle and pulmonary artery and avoiding the occurrence of life-threatening pulmonary embolism (PE). The filter is usually composed of multiple metal wires or stents to form a mesh-like filtering structure that can effectively capture blood clots. The main feature of the biodegradable IVC filter is the biodegradable materials it uses. These materials can be gradually hydrolyzed or enzymolyzed in the human body, and eventually converted into harmless substances and absorbed by the human body. Common biodegradable materials include polylactic acid (PLA), polyglycolic acid (PGA) and its copolymers. These materials have good biocompatibility and degradability, and can reduce irritation and damage to human tissues while ensuring the filter function.
