The Pockels cell is the basic element of an electro-optic modulator and can be used for Q-switched lasers. Pockels cells are commonly used for electro-optical Q-switching in the range of 200nm-2000nm. They can apply voltage to the crystal to change the polarization state of light and have the characteristics of low absorption and small size.
