Rubber for semiconductor refers to rubber products used in the production and assembly of electronic components such as microchips, transistors, diodes, capacitors, and resistors. These rubber products may include molded rubber parts, elastomer seals, gaskets, o-rings, and adhesives.

Semiconductor manufacturing involves cleanroom environments where contamination must be kept to an absolute minimum. Therefore, specialty silicone rubbers or fluoroelastomers are often employed because of their superior chemical resistance properties and excellent compatibility with various processing solvents and chemicals used in chip fabrication.

Silicones, particularly those formulated with platinum catalysts, possess exceptionally low moisture absorption rates, ensuring dimensional stability under extreme conditions such as thermal cycling or exposure to plasma etchants. Fluoroelastomers exhibit outstanding resistance to harsh chemicals found in wafer processing steps like photoresist stripping, wet cleans, and acid diffusion baths.

In addition to chemical resistance, rubber products for semiconductor applications need to meet stringent mechanical requirements. High purity silicone materials may be necessary for certain bonding applications where minimal trace metal content is critical for achieving reliable hermetic seals. Similarly, ultra-high vacuum (UHV)-compatible rubber gasket materials capable of maintaining integrity up to 1×10^-9 Torr pressure differentials are essential for chip packaging operations involving evacuated cavities or low-particle environments.
